In ‘Ecocannibalism: Making the consumer consumable’, participants are transported to a future world that has rejected humanity as a consequence of severing their connection with the Earth’s natural systems.
Led by a narrator from the far future, participants engage in a narrative of the development and widespread adoption of synthetic meat as a solution for sustainable nourishment. They witness the societal consequences, finding humans became devoid of ancient wisdom that once connected humanity to Earth’s life-giving rhythms. Within this future, each participant is guided through the enactment of an Ecocannibal ritual feast for earth reconnection, serving as a poignant reflection on the human condition and the profound interplay between human existence and the natural world.
At the heart of ‘Ecocannibalism’ lies the concept of making the consumer consumable – a radical idea that investigates the existence of the human as a species in an Ecosystem where the body is a piece in the infinite loop of energy and matter exchange. In this experience, feast and mortuary practices come together to exemplify their role in shaping cultural attitudes towards the human cycle of life and ecological consciousness.
